Hard Drive Destruction & Shredding
When data absolutely must not survive, physical destruction is the final word. We shred, crush and degauss drives to recognised security standards — and prove it with per-serial certification.
For some data, wiping isn't enough — policy, regulation or simple prudence demands the drive itself ceases to exist. Our destruction service reduces hard drives, SSDs and tapes to fragments from which no laboratory on earth can recover a single file.
We operate industrial shredders that reduce drives to small fragments, hydraulic crushers that deform platters and shatter spindle assemblies, and degaussers that erase magnetic media with a field strong enough to destroy the drive's own firmware. The right method — or combination — depends on your media type and security requirements, and we'll advise honestly on what you actually need.
Every drive is scanned before destruction and appears, serial by serial, on your certificate of destruction. If you'd rather watch it happen, our on-site destruction service brings the process to your car park.

What this service covers
Industrial shredding
Drives are mechanically shredded into small fragments, mixing thousands of platters' debris together — the gold standard for data-bearing media.
Hydraulic crushing
For lower volumes, drive crushers bend platters and destroy read mechanisms, rendering data permanently inaccessible.
Degaussing
Magnetic media — HDDs and tapes — can be erased with certified degaussers that destroy every magnetic domain, including the servo tracks.
SSD-specific destruction
Solid-state media is shredded to a finer particle size, ensuring every individual flash chip is physically broken.
Serial-scanned audit trail
Each drive is barcode/serial scanned before destruction and reconciled on your certificate.
Witnessed destruction available
Attend our facility or have us destroy on-site at yours — see your drives destroyed with your own eyes.
What we collect
Not sure whether something qualifies? Ask — the list below is typical, not exhaustive.
- Mechanical hard drives (HDD) in 3.5in and 2.5in formats
- Solid state drives (SSD), M.2 and NVMe modules
- Server drives, caddies and full RAID array sets
- Backup tapes, LTO cartridges and optical media
- USB sticks, memory cards and external drives
- Failed, unreadable or physically damaged drives
Documentation you receive
Included as standard on every job — never charged as an extra.
- Serial-numbered certificate of destruction for every drive
- Destruction method, particle size and verification result recorded
- Operator name and timestamp against each drive
- Itemised register reconciling drives received against drives destroyed
- Waste transfer note for the resulting scrap
How it works
- 1
Consign your media
Drives are collected in sealed, tracked containers or destroyed at your premises — your choice.
- 2
Serial verification
Every drive is scanned and matched against your manifest before destruction.
- 3
Destruction
Media is shredded, crushed or degaussed according to the agreed specification.
- 4
Certification
You receive a certificate of destruction listing every serial number, date and method.
- 5
Material recycling
Shredded fragments are sent for metal separation and recovery — even destroyed drives avoid landfill.

The benefits at a glance
- Destruction to BS EN 15713 security standards
- Per-serial certificates for total auditability
- On-site and witnessed options available
- Handles HDDs, SSDs, tapes, optical media and USB drives
- Destroyed material is still 100% recycled
- Same-week service nationwide
Hard Drive Destruction FAQs
For most business data, certified wiping is sufficient and lets the drive be reused — the greener option. Physical destruction is the right choice for failed drives that can't be wiped, media holding highly sensitive data, or where your policy mandates it. We'll advise on the right mix.
